Meatballs with Tomato Sauce

Meatballs are one of the kids' favorite dishes, and with tomato sauce, they are the most traditional.
If you don't have basil, you can use oregano.
Pair this dish with mashed potatoes or spaghetti.

Ingredients

• 700 g (1.5 lbs) of minced beef
• 100 g (3.5 oz) of bacon cut into pieces
• 1 small chopped onion
• 1 egg
• 3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs
• Salt
• Black pepper
• Dried oregano leaves
• 4 tablespoons of olive oil
• 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
• 1 bay leaf
• 300 g (10.5 oz) of tomato pulp
• 125 ml (1/2 cup) of white wine
• 350 ml (12.3 fl oz) of natural beef broth
• 1 level tablespoon of brown sugar
• Fresh chopped basil leaves
• Freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

   In a grinder or a processor, put the onion and the bacon.
   Grind everything until it becomes a paste.

   Season the meat with salt and pepper.
   Add oregano leaves to taste and the mixture of bacon with the onion.
   Also add the broken egg and the breadcrumbs.
   Mix everything very well.

   Take tablespoons of the meat and shape them into compact balls.

   In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil, the bay leaf, and the garlic.
   Stir and let it heat without frying the garlic.
   Put the meatballs and let them lightly fry on both sides.

   Meanwhile, in a container, mix the tomato pulp, the beef broth, and the white wine.

   After the meatballs are golden, add the tomato sauce and let it cook on high heat for 7 minutes.
   After the time, add the brown sugar and adjust the salt and pepper seasonings.
   Stir and let it cook for another 7 minutes.

   After the time and when the sauce is well-cooked, turn off the heat and mix in the basil leaves.
   Finally, sprinkle with the grated cheese.
