King or Queen Cake French Toast

King or Queen Cake French Toast is perfect for using up leftover cake during this time of year.
If the cakes are not too dry, cut them into slices the day before and store them on a plate covered with a napkin.

Ingredients

• 10 to 15 slices of 1-week-old King or Queen Cake
• ½ liter of whole milk
• 1 octopus, about 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs)
• 3 strips of lemon peel, only the yellow part
• 1 cinnamon stick
• 4 eggs
• Oil for frying
• Sugar
• Cinnamon powder

   In a small saucepan or a kettle, heat ⅓ of the milk, lemon peels, and the cinnamon stick over low heat until it begins to boil.
   When it starts to boil, turn off the heat, add the remaining milk and Port wine.
   Stir with a spoon and strain through a fine sieve.
   Let it cool for 10 minutes.

   In a deep plate, with the King or Queen Cake slices well spread out, pour enough milk to soak them.
   Quickly place them on a tray with a wire rack to drain the excess milk.

   Break the eggs into a plate and beat well with a fork.
   Dip the slices in the beaten eggs and drain.
   Fry the slices in hot oil on both sides until they are golden.
   Remove the French toast to a plate lined with paper towels.

   In a deep plate, mix sugar and cinnamon powder to taste.
   Roll the French toast in this mixture and place them on a serving plate.
